ATTEMPTS to relocate a troublesome colony of bats up at Linville in the Somerset region have proven fruitless.
Somerset Regional Council began clearing vegetation at a known bat roost earlier this year following complaints from Linville residents.
The colony of about 2000 bats wasn't perturbed by the loss of vegetation along the creek near Wells Park, returning to the roost recently.
Mayor Graeme Lehmann said council was now very limited in what action it could take.
"The huge influx experienced at the colony towards the end of last year was due to the little red flying foxes which had migrated into the township, and we are confident - after liaising with bat experts - that we are unlikely to see the huge numbers return," he said.
"We understand the concerns of residents in the area and we will continue to work with residents and bat experts to find alternate solutions to this ongoing issue."
