October 2016: Primary dispersal activities stopped on 30 July in accordance with Council's approval from the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage. After this time, the flying foxes are heavily pregnant or have dependent young, and both Australian and NSW Governments prohibit dispersal while the species is vulnerable. Subject to need and Government approval, we may recommence dispersal activities in 2017.
Camps at the Water Gardens, Lake Catalina and around Heron and Albatross Roads are empty. Around 40,000 flying foxes remain in the region and are located in a number of camps around Eurobodalla. These flying foxes will continue to forage at night around Batemans Bay depending on food supply.
